Currently, the Indonesian music scene is dominated by the ‘HipDut’ trend. ‘HipDut’ is short for HipHop Dangdut, and is a fresh fusion in the ever-evolving world of music. Now, the genre has not only taken over Indonesia, but has also entered the global market.

Dangdut walks, so HipDut can run
‘HipDut’ was initially born when the original dangdut genre was revived. Dangdut was loved and often played through karaoke sessions and music concerts, which were mostly dominated by Gen Z. They felt that dangdut had a unique spirit that suited them, besides pop or any other genres.
Songs from the dangdut greats like Didi Kempot and Denny Caknan are mandatory setlist favorites. As a result, dangdut is seen as a gateway to discovering what Gen Z’s version of dangdut might look like. Shortly thereafter, internet was exploding with ‘Garam & Madu‘ sudden hit.
”The song broke through social media when it was first released at the end of 2024. On TikTok, Garam & Madu was used as a song thousands of times in just a couple of weeks. The new genre then splits public attention: some loved it, while others felt it was just a one-hit wonder.”
Hipdut’s icon: Naykilla, Tenxi, Jemsii
Nevertheless, Naykilla, Tenxi, and Jemsii have proven that ‘Hipdut’ can achieve new heights. Following the massive success of ‘Garam & Madu’, other songs such as ‘Kasih Aba Aba’ also were well received. Catchy and memorable lyrics from their songs have made this trio stick in everyone’s mind.
After the trio’s success with ‘HipDut’ breakthrough, they also paved the way to embrace the genre. Their performance schedule is now getting busier. Seems like the ‘HipDut’ fever still going strong since its emergence last year.
Sydney got HipDut-ted
Gaining huge popularity and songs played everywhere, it’s hard not to wonder what’s next for Naykilla, Tenxi, and Jemsii. Finally, they had the chance to put ‘Hipdut’ on the global stage at SXSW Sydney. This annual pop-culture event was held on October 13–19 in Sydney, Australia.
The ‘HipDut’ icon was welcomed with excitement, as seen across social media. Naykilla, Tenxi, and Jemsii delivered their hits such as ‘Garam & Madu’, ‘Kasih Aba Aba’, ‘So Asu’, etc. During the trio’s Australia visit, a fan even gave Naykilla a gift as a form of appreciation.
”After conquered Indonesia, now Australia is experiencing the same fever. So, where else should the trio of Naykilla, Tenxi, and Jemsii take HipDut next?”
