We follow Tawa as she moves from one stage to another, crossing paths with friends along the way. Tawa and her friends collectively bearing old wounds and reshaping personal trauma into something that can be laughed at. The story hits close to home, especially since stand-up in real life works the same way.
”Anxiety, frustration, all those unresolved feelings usually become the fuel for comedy. And for Tawa, the biggest thing she’s been carrying all this time is the pain of losing her father.”
Trying stand-up comedy in real life
One of the standout things about this movie is its cast, which feels genuinely fresh. Since the movie dives into the stand-up comedy scene, Aco brings in real comedians to fill out the world, such as Arif Brata, Bintang Emon, to Gilang Bhaskara.
It doesn’t stop there, the cast actually tried doing stand-up in real life too. Even non-comedians like Rachel Amanda and Rifnu Wikana got on stage. According to Raditya Dika, who saw them perform, they were surprisingly funny!
”As a result, the comedy feels raw and authentic, like watching stand-up the way it actually exists in real life.”
