Trae Young Arrival Makes Wizards a Big Market Team?

All-Star point guard Trae Young is officially a Washington Wizard now. After making Atlanta feel his ice-cold era, it’s Washington’s turn to get the same treatment. But, what really went down behind Trae’s move from the Atlanta Hawks?

He wasn’t in full control anymore

For nearly eight seasons, Trae Young basically ran the team. He was the primary ball handler, the main assist guy, and the full-time playmaker. And honestly, it worked, especially early on, when the Hawks made that 2021 Eastern Conference Finals run.

But over time, Trae kept saying he needed a real running mate. Not just to lighten the load, but also someone who could hold things down when he was on the bench or dealing with injuries. So the Hawks made their move, bringing in Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs to pair up with Trae in the backcourt.

Unfortunately, the Trae–Dejounte duo didn’t work out the way people expected. Instead of leveling up, the Hawks kinda fell off, from being one of the most feared teams in the East to a squad struggling just to make the playoffs. In the end, the team moved on from Dejounte and chose to surround Trae with pieces that better fit the team overall.

”The arrival of Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, and De’Andre Hunter made Atlanta feel complete on all fronts. But unfortunately, it means Trae no longer had full control of the team, and overtime, his role just wasn’t as crucial as it used to be.”

Closed the beautiful chapter

Even though he’s no longer rocking the Hawks jersey, Trae’s relationship with Atlanta, especially the fans, is still solid. Both sides ended the chapter on a high note after the memorable 8 seasons Trae spent there. Now, Hawks fans are backing their team as they fight for a playoff spot.

On the flip side, Trae has officially been introduced by the Washington Wizards. He’s rocking jersey number 3, previously worn by Bradley Beal. No official word yet on whether he’ll suit up for the rest of the season with his new squad.

Trae Young’s move left a lot of people scratching their heads, especially about why he chose Washington. The 27-year-old cleared things up by saying he sees D.C. as a big-market team. That pretty much answers the noise, particularly since Trae had been linked to big franchises.

”The Wizards are currently 10-27 in the Eastern Conference. So, they’re basically in tanking mode and gearing up for a fresh start next season. However, their future lineup surely not messing around: Trae Young, Bilal Coulibaly, Khris Middleton, Kyshawn George, and Alexandre Sarr.”
