Slank just dropped their latest single, ‘Republik Fufufafa.’ The release has quickly caught public attention, especially because of its title. So what is Slank actually trying to say through this song?
Controversial title
This new single isn’t really making waves because of the music, or arrangement. What’s got everyone talking is the title itself, ‘Fufufafa’, which, for some reason, has long been linked to Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Because of that, a lot of people are reading the song as Slank’s cheeky commentary on the state of Indonesia right now.
Well, actually, Slank has long been known as a major supporter of Joko Widodo. They even made works backing the former president during the elections. Ever since the 2012 Jakarta governor race, Slank and Jokowi have been pretty much hand-in-hand.
”But now, after all the absurd drama, it looks like Slank has hit the reset button, back to the Slank we know: calling things out and throwing shade wherever they see it.”
Slank playing it safe?
On the other hand, some people have criticized Slank for lacking integrity. This criticism arises because the band had previously been vocal supporters of Jokowi. As a result, several parties have accused Slank of being ungrateful.
Now, as Jokowi facing a lot of bad stigma, Slank seems to have switched sides. They basically throwing shade at someone they once stood beside.
”It’s no secret that the whole “who’s actually behind ‘Fufufafa’ thing is super sensitive, especially for Jokowi’s side. But it looks like Bimbim and the gang already knew and fully aware of the risks that came with it.”
Still, this new perspective from Slank deserves some credit. Even after a decade of wading into politics, the newer generation can see them more like their early days: raw, bold, and unfiltered.
