“Multo” is now everyone’s favorite song. Released by Cup of Joe, this song appears to have captured the hearts of our listeners. This is not surprising, as OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is already well-known here. Here’s why:

A go-to sad song everyone can relate to
Typical sad songs with lyrics that resonate with heartache are easily embraced by listeners. They feel connected and use the song to express their emotions. Additionally, sad songs are considered to help people momentarily forget their pain.
However, ‘Multo’ is something else. It’s in Tagalog, which our listeners usually don’t understand whereas normally the sad songs that popular are in English. Still, that’s exactly what makes this Cup of Joe’s song so special.
”Another interesting point about ‘Multo’ is its meaning, which is Ghost. Although it refers to lingering memories, Cup of Joe seems to let listeners represent their own ‘Multo’.”
As such, there are many different interpretations depending on how listeners perceive ‘Multo’. Some consider their ‘Multo’ to be partner, parents, or someone who once present in their life. But, some also said their ‘Multo’ was missed opportunities or dreams that they can’t achieve anymore.
OPM and Indonesian’s song connection
The outbreak of this new song in Indonesia is actually nothing new. Previously, many OPM songs also went viral, such as Pano and Pasilyo. Both released and booming in Indonesia back in 2022.
In contrast, a lot of Indonesian songs are also popular in the Philippines. For example, Dia Masa Lalumu, Aku Masa Depanmu by Vionita. This song was even adapted into a Bisaya version due to its popularity. Moreover, many Filipinos feel that Indonesian songs also are similar to OPM.
”The love between these two countries has finally allowed their respective songs to become hits. Philippines, with their ‘Multo’, seems to have enchanted the skies of Jakarta so far.”
